Description

TB-500 10mg research peptide — Canada

The 10mg vial is the larger of our two single-compound TB-500 listings. Under that trade name sits either thymosin β4 — the 43-residue, N-acetylated peptide sequenced from calf thymus in 1981 and later shown to be the cell’s main reservoir of monomeric actin[1, 2] — or its acetylated 17–23 fragment, which is what analytical chemists have found in commercial TB-500 preparations[5]. Which one a given batch contains is a question for that batch’s report. Lyophilized powder, one sealed vial, laboratory research only.

Identity at a glance

Trade name TB-500 — used for two molecules (below)
Thymosin β4 (timbetasin) 43 aa · C212H350N56O78S · 4963 g/mol · CAS 77591-33-4 · PubChem CID 16132341 · UNII 2D5MRE3SSY
Ac-LKKTETQ (Tβ4 17–23) 7 aa · C38H68N10O14 · 889.0 g/mol · CAS 885340-08-9 · PubChem CID 62707662 · UNII QHK6Z47GTG
Declared content 10 mg per vial (label value; no measured value is on file for this strength)

Batch documentation: a batch-specific COA for this strength has not been posted yet — see the COA library. The report for the 5 mg vial (#219841) covers that strength only and is not reproduced here.

What researchers have looked at

  • Actin biology: thymosin β4 is the most abundant β-thymosin in mammalian tissue and the main G-actin-sequestering peptide; a 2005 review framed its repair effects in skin, cornea and injured organs around that role[2].
  • Mouse heart (2004): after coronary-artery ligation, thymosin β4 raised integrin-linked kinase and Akt activity, improved early cardiomyocyte survival and improved cardiac function; in culture it formed a complex with PINCH and ILK[4].
  • Mouse epicardium (2007): the peptide was required for coronary vessel development and made quiescent adult epicardial explants produce fibroblasts, smooth-muscle and endothelial cells[3].
  • Horses and doping control (2012): the acetylated LKKTETQ fragment and its metabolites were confirmed in equine plasma and urine after administration of a TB-500 product — a detection method, not an efficacy study[5].
  • Limits: human work is confined to small investigational trials of thymosin β4; a phase I study of recombinant thymosin β4 in 84 healthy volunteers reported mild-to-moderate adverse events and no dose-limiting toxicity[6]. Nothing here supports any use of TB-500 in people.

Storage and handling

  • Frozen at −20 °C for long-term storage of the sealed lyophilized vial (the site gives up to 24 months); short-term in a cool, dry, dark place; no repeated freeze–thaw.
  • Soluble in water and saline. Solutions are less stable than powder; bacteriostatic water is stocked separately. Protocols belong to the researcher and are not published here.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a certificate of analysis for TB-500 10mg?

Not yet. No batch-specific report for the 10 mg vial is in the COA library at the time of writing. The 5 mg vial’s Janoshik report (#219841) applies to that strength only; we do not reuse it here. The page will be updated when a 10 mg report is posted.

Which molecule does “TB-500” refer to on this listing?

Until a batch report identifies it, we can only say what the trade name covers: full-length thymosin β4 (43 amino acids, about 4963 g/mol) or the acetylated fragment Ac-LKKTETQ (7 amino acids, 889 g/mol) found in TB-500 products by doping-control chemists (PMID 23084823). The mass-spectrometry line on a report is what settles it.

What has thymosin β4 been studied for in animals?

Mostly repair biology in mice and rats: it is the main G-actin-sequestering peptide in cells (PMID 16099219); in mice it activated integrin-linked kinase and Akt after coronary ligation (PMID 15565145) and mobilised adult epicardial progenitor cells (PMID 17108969). These are preclinical findings, not claims about people.

Is TB-500 10mg for human use?

No. Neither thymosin β4 nor its fragment has an approved product in Canada, the US or the EU; the only human data are small investigational trials of thymosin β4 in specific conditions, including a phase I safety study (PMID 34346165). This vial is supplied for laboratory research only, with no dosing or administration guidance.
